Montenegro's monasteries—spiritual symbols of the country among the mountains and sea
Montenegro is known not only for its sea and beaches, but also for its ancient Orthodox monasteries.
Many of them are located in the mountains, these places with a special atmosphere of peace and strength. They played a significant role in preserving Orthodox tradition and national identity.
Today, the monasteries are open to the public and attract both pilgrims and travelers interested in the history, architecture, and spiritual heritage of the Balkans. A visit to a monastery offers the opportunity to see ancient frescoes, icons, experience a unique, calm atmosphere, distinct from the resort life on the coast.
Most monasteries can be visited by car or on a guided tour. A dress code is recommended: shoulders and knees are covered.
